Charice Pempengco featured on a popular Filipino Entertainment News Program

Charice Pempengco was relatively unknown outside of the Philippines before FalseVoice of YouTube started posting her videos on his channel which then earned her an invitation to record some songs in Sweden in June 2007 and eventually a guest appearance on a talent show in Korea called “Star King” in October of the same year. Since then, a lot of YouTubers uploaded her performance on that show. In late November Ellen DeGeneres saw the clip and featured it on her show and then personally called Charice to invite her to perform on her show. Charice's immigration attorney, Michael Gurfinkel, and her United States Attorney, Ed Shapiro, from Grubman, Indursky and Shire, as well as many others had to work very hard to acquire her visa on such short notice, but they made it happen and Charice appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and for the first time on American Television on 12/19/07. On April 8, 2008, Charice invaded the United Kingdom after she guested on London's Paul O'Grady Show. Again, she was requested to sing And I Am Telling You, "I'm Not Going" and "I Will Always Love You" and eventually, she got the same response by receiving standing ovations for her two performances. Charice appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Monday - May 12, 2008. The episode was entitled "World's Smartest Kids" and featured 10 gifted children in their specific field. Charice was the only guest who sang. Charice sang Whitney Houston's - "I Have Nothing". She dazzled the audience, and Oprah as well with her jaw dropping powerful voice! After the performance Charice was honored with yet another prolonged standing ovation from the audience, as Oprah looked in almost disbelief of Charice's incredible performance. Oprah embraced Charice with hugs and showered her with compliments, at the same time Charice was a bit overwhelmed and got a little teary eyed. 
Charice was invited to the Grand Opening Weekend Celebration of MGM Grand in Foxwoods, Connecticut on May 17, 2008. She sang a medley of Whitney Houston songs, namely "I Will Always Love You" and "I Have Nothing". The audience gave her the only standing ovations of the night and they also cheered her on to perform another song. David Foster on the piano immediately played "And I Am Telling You" from the Dreamgirls Movie soundtrack and Charice sang it unrehearsed which earned her another standing ovation from the crowd. Charice also shared the stage with other Super Star Performers including John Mayer, Josh Groban, Alicia Keys, Jamiah Nash as they sang Key's hit song "No One" as the final song of the evening.
David Foster & Friends, Mandalay Bay Resort Las Vegas 
Charice performed on May 23, 2008 at The Event Center at the Mandalay Bay Resort to participate in a one night only live concert tribute to legendary producer David Foster. Charice had the honor of singing Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" and "I Will Always Love You" from the hit movie Bodyguard. Whitney and Kevin Costner, the stars of Bodyguard thanked Foster via video for writing and producing the mega hit songs for the movie. Charice then sang "And I Am Telling You" from the movie Dreamgirls. She received roaring standing O's for each one of her performances.
"Tonight, a star is born!" Foster boasted after Charice's three song set. After the show Josh Groban said of Charice - "I had the great pleasure of being able to stand inside just behind the stage when she was performing… she has a beautiful voice." During the cast party where no cameras were allowed, people, including the artists flocked to Charice. They were all hugging and congratulating her for a wonderful performance. The world famous chef, and caterer of the show Wolfgang Puck who saw the show with his wife could not get enough of Charice. Mrs. Puck said - "I want to be your mother from now on." Charice got a standing invitation from Wolfgang to join him and his wife each time Charice is in the Beverly Hills area. The show also featured Michael Johns, Andrea Bocelli, Babyface, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Kenny G., Katharine McPhee, Brian McKnight and Boz Scaggs to name a few. Foster, along with the artists, performed some of his biggest hits. The special will air sometime later this year and a DVD and CD will be available for purchase in the fall. |
