Charice's Video Message About the Upcoming Tampa Show
October 28, 2009
Charice filmed this in NYC on 10/27 for her upcoming Tampa show. The video was created specifically for a promotion targeting The Filipino Channel, which explains her addressing "Filipinos there in Tampa, Florida". We recognize that Charice's fans are diverse and worldwide, so our intent is not to alienate anyone!
CHARICE appreciates you ALL, so please continue showing your LOVE & SUPPORT and see one of her shows with David Foster&Friends!
Charice will be performing in Tampa, Florida as part of the David Foster & Friends Tour at the St Pete Times Forum on 10/30. Tickets are available here.

This is a non-issue
We watched Charice in Rosemont Theater and all for of us, 2 Caucasians and 2 Filipinos were blown away. She was awesome. Her shoutout to all Filipinos really is a non-issue. Just as DF always acknowledge Canadians, so can anybody acknowledge their nationalities. She didn't say anything bad or was disrespectful to anybody. She is the most kindhearted, warm accomodating performer you'll ever meet. So, just please indulge her on this.
Apology????
Hi Charice
I know you love us all and a 3 second shoutout to your Filipino fans should not even be an issue. You shouldn't have to apologize to anyone, nor should you have to acknowledge us all.
Geez, your music says it all. And you always thank everyone anyway. Being a non-Filipino, I have seen you live on 4 separate occassions and even DF has asked about the Filipinos in the audience. No concerns at all on my part.
This is what I choose to take away from your concerts:
1- You are singing from your heart to each and every one of your fans.
If you weren't would you be getting standing ovation after standing ovation.
2- From your videos and seeing you in person, you are always trying to please your fans during your meet and greets. You are warm and friendly and you feel bad when you can't meet everyone. To me this is going above and beyond. You have just given us your all singing 4 or 5 songs and here you are after your performance making yourself available to us.
3- My seeing your smile, your power, your creativity, although the mike twirls almost gave me a heart attack, and making each and every performance unique to your new audience.
4- Your fun personal videos that make you more accessible to us, your fans.
You have given me so much happiness over the past 2 years that a 3 second acknowledgement during your concerts or a 20 second commercial asking Filipinos to come to your show will not stop me from attending more engagements or buying your cd's. So are you now prohibited from mentioning "Filipino" any more. Can you no longer say anything in your native language? Unfortunately, your humbleness and accessibility has made many of us think we can manage your career. But, as your Mom has warned you, as your star continues to grow, you will be more and more subject to criticism, so you must realize you can't please everyone. So be it. Just do the best that you can and realize that any mistake will be pointed out. Learn from your mistakes and develop a "thick" skin.
Rather than criticisms, I will offer you some suggestions that I see many others have also pointed out:
1- Just say hello and thank you to all your fans for coming to see you, first thing. Then if you mention your Filipino fans, at least you covered all your bases.
2- When you have finished singing a song and we are giving you an ovation, whether standing or not, acknowledge your applause. Remember, we are giving you LOVE the only way we can to show you our appreciation for a job well done. Give a little eye contact and a bow and savor the moment. You'll get to your next song soon enough. Milk that applause girl. You earned it.
I mean that's all I can suggest. You are the most complete entertainer for me, at age 17 that I have ever seen. If I'm going home with a smile on my face, you have done your job. And so far I have not been disappointed.
The best to you, your Mom, Carl, DF, Oprah, Ellen, and Marc. Also, thank you to Carl for taking my picture with you. And give Porsche a cuddle for me.
Your fan forever.
RE: Tampa Invite to TFC Subscribers
It really hurts me with all these comments about Charice. Looks like everyone is jumping at her to the point that it was a wrong thing what she did. I am a fan of Charice who was lucky to get a chance to see her after the concert. Although most are constructive criticism from fans, some I suspect have a hidden agenda of taking this incident to diminish her accomplishment and her character. I am a fan and I see no wrong in this video. My husband was at the concert and at meet and greet. We found Charice as talented, kind and unpretentious that's why we fans love her. As a real fan, I wish her success in her career. And to non-filipinos, Charice is a very good person and really deserves all the good things that's happening to her. As a fan I will continue to support her and not discourage by this innocent promotional video . Keep new videos coming. We fans can not get enough. I'm glad more people came to your concert in Tampa.
i don't see anything wrong
i don't see anything wrong with this promotion to encourage filipino tfc subscribers coz majority of filipinos have tfc this is for them to take advantage to get the ticket for a little less iam sure this was approved by her management
shoutout
charice apologized about shoutout to filipinos at the concert thru her mom on the twitter in my opinion charice di not mean to offend anybody she's still new in the music business abroad she still in the learning process and that's include on how to deal with her fans worldwide at her age she has a lot to handle in reality she is always gracious and accomodating with her fans regardless of what race they are i've seen it she's always been like that even when she was in the phil. she has compassion for others specially for people that are less fortunate that's why she likes to contribute to charity events through her singing. Inspite of all these that are going on in her life she is still a teenager who is bubbly giggles a lot typical teenager who just want to have fun
please delete
Admin - request to pls delete my postings here, including this one. The person who needed to read my response had already read it so it doesn't need to stay. Please delete my first post as well. Others posted same thoughts and I prefer that mine be deleted. Not good to appear as if we're bombarding Charice with this idea. I want to contribute to a positive atmosphere on her web. Thanks!
hello
hello chasters, hello Charice!
This topic is not really a big deal for me. But, personally, I think it's only proper to always address the audience in general, as a whole. That way no one would feel left out in any way.

Settle This Issue
I guess its getting hotter & hotter here now, so we have to settle this issue of Inviting and Addressing once and for all. I know we are all avid fans of Ms Charice, so that means we are all One Family now with Charice as our younger sister, I hope thats Ok for you out there, we are brothers and sisters regardless of race. If you may let me advice everyone, we have to finish this kind of attacking the comments of the other, everyone is right & correct in its own sense. My advise is = The best thing that we can do now is to look after Charice ONLY which we are usually doing before, She must be our only concern now as the younger sister of us, cause we love her, its not important to look at any mistakes between us, Let's focus our comments to her, not between us. I guess the best thing that we can do is = If ever any person is attacking or giving Destructive criticism not Constructive criticism to our Charice, thats the time we have to attack that person. There's no room to quarrel between us. We love Charice , we look for her, give her some constructive comments. We may just give thanks between us if the comments are constructive. Is that OK for everybody, Remember the song Note To God by Ms Charice its very inspiring, we have to dig deep on that song. Written by Dianne Warren and produced by David Foster, We thank them also for taking good care of our Idol Ms Charice, and Oprah and Lisa thank you also, God Bless us All.
catch ur drift Marc...i wont
catch ur drift Marc...i wont say no more. Admin or GM pls. delete my previous comment. Am no expert regarding this issue. Mainly am here to support Charice. It's all good. I leave it to experts. My mistake, judge n execdutioner is way off....sorry folks....im just gonna go back to basics...
CHARICE ROCKS....
18wheel
18wheel - You don't have to tell me to keep in my head that Filipinos are a minority in America - that is a no-brainer. I'm Filipino who has lived in America for almost 40 years and I am acutely aware of that so don't lecture me about demographics. I am a fan of Charice and I wish her all the best. I said nothing here about her being a racist so don't put words in my mouth. I am not making a judgment and you have no right to call me a judge and executioner. There is nothing in the context of my post that even suggests I am judging or executing Charice - whatever in the heck you mean by executioner - so delete that because it makes no sense.
Like other posts before mine, it was a reminder to not alienate any group and it is for her good. Yes it's a David Foster concert, but Charice is the one who shouts out for Filipinos and that will be attached to her, not David Foster. Foster is Foster, and since you don't know who he is - he is a music giant and has absolutely nothing to prove because he has done it all. Charice is building a career and if she is to capture all of America, she must include all her fans and not single out Filipinos. If you read Concerned's and other brief comments here, they share same thoughts so I am not alone in my sentiments. Other blogs have discussed this and lots of Charice's Filipino fans are uncomfortable with this, and rightly so because it is not polite.
Being a fan doesn't mean I am blind or oblivious to the weaknesses of the one I admire. It means that I understand that no matter how excellent that person is, there's always room for improvement somewhere. In the case of Charice, being from the Philippines and perhaps unaware of race being a sensitive issue in America, she needs to be advised. And if David Foster is allowing it, he needs to be advised as well that penetrating Charice's Filipino base by the constant calling out of Filipinos is deemed by many Filipinos as inappropriate. I don't know if this group happens to be in the minority, but it makes no difference because they have the right to voice out their feelings. This is America and no one can infringe on that right - and people like you who do not agree have no right to call me names because your idea of being a fan happens to be different from mine. People who go and watch the concerts are all paying customers, thus they all deserve equal recognition.
Because this is Charice's website, people of all kinds view this. The posts here should be a reminder to them that next time they issue an invite, they should include everyone. What is wrong with that? It is the polite thing to do. For Charice who is a great upcoming artist, the less mistakes she makes will only boost her stocks - do you have a problem with that?
Marc Johnson - you catch my drift.
Not offended at all
As a non-Filipino fan of Charice, I am not offended at all by this video or her shout-outs to Filipinos at her shows. At the meet and greet in Boston she was accomodating and gracious with everyone---it did not matter if they were Filipino or white.
Tampa, Fla.
Dear Charice - First of, I want you to know that I think you're absolutely adorable and I have become a huge fan. You are so talented and many people are convinced you're gonna make it big in the US and around the world.
I do want to add my two cents to what have been said here. I am bothered by the way you call out Filipinos in your concerts. Race is a serious issue in America and it is never a good idea to single out a specific ethnic group. In fact, it is considered downright rude, especially in an event where the audience is diverse. I would not want Celine to call out Canadians or Shakira to do the same with Colombians. That will offend me. You're a patriotic Filipino, as you should be. But to display patriotism to the exclusion of others who paid to watch you is wrong and misplaced.
It is enough that you are introduced as someone from the Philippines. Please do not alienate others because this is the USA and any preferential treatment to a specific group does not set well with people.
On this video re: the Tampa concert, I wish you had invited everyone. People of various ethnic groups log on to your web and it is not polite that invitation was extended only to Filipinos.
I have watched several videos where you singled out Filipinos and honestly, it has gotten old. I hope it will not come to a point where people will feel so offended that they will start booing you when you call out Filipinos. It can happen and will happen if people are offended enough. Americans are assertive people who take the race issue seriously and if they are displeased about something, they will not hesitate to make it known.
I bought tickets to the LA concert and will be bringing someone who is not Filipino. I hope the audience will receive equal treatment in your greetings. My best to you - you're doing a super job!
Thanks dwf541
Thank you very much dwf541 for understanding the situation of our idol Ms Charice. You have a big heart. God Bless you too!!!!
WorldWide
This is a follow-up comment, Ms Charice always remember anything you posted on the internet, YouTube, etc. its seen through-out the world, all your fans around the world can see, not just fillipinos, we all love u Ms Charice, we are all your fans who love and always want to see u even here on line. Please give more concern to others because of the fact that even they are not your countrymen they are your fans loving you, you know what I mean. More power to you, hoping you'll have a smooth travel on your Road to Stardom, your still going there, to be with the established Stars!!! You need the support of all fans..God Bless you and your Career.
To All of Your Fans
I don't think that Charice is doing anything wrong, I believe she is trying to get support from her fillipino base for the up and comming concerts. She is trying to rally her fillipino fans . I am a American and I understand . with that said , she should say "to all my fans" so no one would feel left out.maybe she say this"TO ALL MY FANS, I LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT...........JUST A THOUGHT.
Concerned
Charice, I'm sure by now you've probably noticed all the chaos that's ensued as this video was posted. As a fan, I am merely concerned about your career. While I know that you'll rise to the occasion in the end, many of us are beginning to see the effects of the "constant patriotism" that's been exhibited. We have expressed our concern when you kept shouting out for Filipinos before. Now, with this video, it has really really angered many. If you look at the comments, you can sense so much hostility. This is why many of us advise you to PLEASE acknowledge all your fans. Regardless of whether you were taping this mainly towards the TFC subscribers, you need to realize that you are trying to hit international fame. You are no longer in the Philippines, nor are you a local talent. America is so diverse and this is where the majority of your fanbase is. Not all your fans are Filipinos. You have to realize, if you want to hit it big, the Filipinos aren't going to help you get there. It is the majority of America that will help you get there. Even if you had the support of all Filipinos, it still wouldn't carry you to international fame so you need the support of ALL of America. There are so many non-Filipinos that support you and are avid fans. Please acknowledge them. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, stop singling out your race. Filipinos will be proud regardless of whether you give them a shoutout or not. Just say "hello to all my fans" Just a thought. I really hope you take this as constructive criticism. Thanks for listening.
Invitation
With this video, I guess it will be offending to other citizens because you are inviting only the Filipinos, how about the others, please invite them too. Because in all your concerts all the fans are watching you, all your fans who love u, I mean your fans are not only filipinos !!! Anyway good luck to all your coming concerts. Take care. I'm still your #1 Fan
nice video Charice!
nice video and the song in the background-- "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire is performed by Philip Bailey at the DFF concert.
